Used 1960 Hillman MINX Series 3B 1500 Convertible

Just arrived with RFH Classics we have this stunning 1960 Hillman Minx 1500 Series 3b Convertible finished in Ocean Blue with contrasting Blue Vinyl interior trim. What a great looking car this is and rarely seen on the roads here in the UK now. This car was owned by the first owner for 47 years and is in excellent condition both inside and out. Hillman Minx Convertibles were built by the coach builder Thrupp & Maberley who produced bespoke bodies for up-market British and European marques. In 1924 the works were moved to new premises at Cricklewood Lane, Cricklewood along with a showroom located in North Audley Street in the West End of London, which in 1925 was bought by the Rootes brothers. The Rootes brothers interests were then in distribution and repair and not manufacture so Thrupp & Maberly concentrated on luxury bodies for Rolls Royce, Daimler and Bentley cars. In 1929, they built the body for Sir Henry Segraves land speed record car, the Golden Arrow and so were not without substantial providence. The Rootes brothers bought Humber and with its Hillman in 1928 and from 1932 bodies were made for the top of the range Humbers. The Minx convertible is a true 4 seat convertible for not only the children to enjoy but because the is such a good size there is enough space to seat two adults in the back for that trip to the pub and I guarantee that will turn a head or two. The car is a very typical Rootes designed car with interesting sculptured lines and quite unusually looks equally as good with the roof up or when it is stored away. In the office we have a good history file for the car that includes the original purchase invoice for the car when it was sold to a lady in Corfe Castle, Wareham for the princely sum of 895-17/6 which was not an insignificant amount to have paid for a car then. In addition to this there are a large number of receipts, old MOT tests and four Rootes Customer Service books complete with details about the early service records of the car, a lovely addition to the cars history. Under the bonnet sits the 4 cylinder 1494cc petrol engine that is paired to 4 speed manual gearbox. Prior to it being offered for sale with us we have had the car through the workshop to rectify some issues the car had so it is now ready for a new owner to enjoy once we have put it through for a new test. The bodywork and chrome are in good order now with it being recently detailed and professionally mopped and polished.
